LUMBERTON — City officials are asking the help of residents in anticipation of Hurricane Irma and the possibility of flooding.
They want residents to make sure any yard debris that has been left in the street for pickup to be cleared from the “gutter line” so that it does not enter the sewer system and cause drainage problems in the event Irma delivers a lot of rain. They say that if debris has already been placed in the street, to remove it.
Irma, a major hurricane, is approaching Florida and forecast models show it affecting Robeson County in the middle of next week. But experts making those predictions caution that the storm is too far away to predict its path with certainty, and that residents need to keep watching forecasts and prepare accordingly.
