LUMBERTON — A Raeford man has been sentenced to at least 22 years in prison for a 2009 armed robbery during which a Shannon man was severely injured, according to Assistant District Attorney Vanessa Burton.

Lee Richardson, 28, of 125 Lot 7 Davidson, was arrested and charged with that crime after a chase that began in Robeson County and ended in Hoke County.

Richardson was found guilty on Aug. 24 of robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and eluding arrest.

Judge James Floyd Ammonds sentenced Richardson to serve 22 to 28 years in prison, according to Burton said.

On March 18, 2009, Richardson robbed Alfredo Mata Castro, 44, at knifepoint near Rennert and Russell roads in the Lombardi Village Mobile Home Park area. During the robbery, Richardson cut Castro in his facial area. Castro, who lived on Rennert Road in Shannon, was later found bleeding by “good Samaritans” and would spend two days in the hospital, according to Barton. She said he suffers partial paralysis because of injuries in the assault.

Richardson stole Castro’s 1989 Dodge Dynasty, a gold necklace and gold ring valued at $1,100, according to court documents. Burton said that Richardson was spotted by Robeson County sheriff’s Deputy James Hunt and a chase began that ended in Hoke County.

Richardson has along criminal history with convictions in Durham, Robeson, Cumberland, Hoke and Orange counties for larceny, assault on a female, communicating threats, assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a government employee, child abuse, breaking and entering and uttering.

To SouthernRebel: You did EXACTLY the right thing!!! Just what I've been preaching. It's up to THE PEOPLE to take care of themselves and you did. I hope you split a head or two and kicked in a few ribs for "probation" too.

so true, so true - my home was broken into last month and a shot gun among other items was stolen - called the Sheriff, made a report and the lack of concern over a firearm being stolen was larming... I made a few inquires in my neighborhood - found who stole my stuff and tracked indown in less than two hours... why couldn't a Deputy do the same thing? The Detective assigned to the case called me a few days later (didn't know I had my stuff back) to tell me it would be "a while" before he could get to the case... guess what - he got to my "case" a month later... if I wouldn't of made the effort and tracked down my shotgun and other items - we would now have "another" firearm in the hands of yet another "criminal"... no wonder Robeson County is so screwed up...

RangerSgt is 110% correct. It's up to THE PEOPLE to take care of themselves, and it's NOT the fault of the law enforcement officers. They can't be everywhere all the time. You might as well forget 911, it takes too long when your life is on the line. Try .357. Works everytime.

@ Natabase

YOu are so right. We have the sorriest judges and DA in North Carolina. PLEASE don't ever cast a vote for Judith Daniesl, Carmichael, or Carter. Dealing with a family member being stalked by her ex who assaulted her, I watched these three routinely let criminals go, and treat the victim worse than the criminal. In this county, if you are a victim you have NO RIGHTS. THey are more worried about offending the criminal.

The murderers should get the death penalty (no matter what race they are) and the rest should get long jail sentences instead of so called supervised probation. Odds are this guy will be back on the street in a few years terrorizing someone else. Robesonians, go get training, a concealed permit, and take responsibility for your security. LEO community can't do it all. Dont be a victim.

I'm glad he got the sentence he got...I have worked with the victims wife for a few years. They are good hard working people. This could have happened to me, you, a loved one, or a family member.

Why did this guy get 22 years for armed robbery when murderers get only 8 years? Don't get me wrong, he is extremely dangerous and should be kept far away from the rest of us but what is worse? His victims are still living. Death (on Earth)is final, regardless of the Afterlife. The Robeson County court system and DA's office just don't make any sense to me at all!
