RED SPRINGS — The Red Springs soccer team traveled just down the road Wednesday to take on Flora MacDonald, and the result was never in doubt.

The Red Devils defeated Flora MacDonald 9-1 on the strength of their ball movement and affective offense.

The first goal for Red Springs came quickly. Scott Mendoza put a move on the opposing keeper and tapped the ball into the goal to put the Red Devils up 1-0.

Mendoza kept the scoring going later in the first half when he made a remarkable shot almost parallel to the goal line making it 2-0 Red Springs.

The Red Devils (2-3-1) would go on to score twice more before halftime.

The fans in attendance got a spark of life when Flora MacDonald's Kade McPhaul broke behind the Red Springs defense in the second half.

McPhaul made the most of his one-on-one matchup with the Red Devils' goalkeeper, popping the ball into the top right corner for the goal to shrink the lead to 4-1 Red Springs.

The Red Devils went on to display some excellent passing skills on their way to a five-goal second half. Red Springs also showed off its corner-kick prowess, as Luis Reyes took a short corner and lobbed a pass to James Martinez in front of the goal, who headed it in for an 8-1 Red Springs lead.

Julio Bello finished the game with a goal and an assist. After the game Red Devils' coach Wayne Grainger said his team could work on getting even better in the passing game.

"It's hard to adjust when you play a team like these guys," Grainger said. "But (Flora MacDonald) did a really good job. We need to work on our passing some more to get ready (for conference)."

Grainger said to prepare for their Three Rivers clash with St. Pauls at home next week, the Red Devils need to get one thing straight.

"I told my guys, it's not always about trying to score," Grainger said. "It's about trying to become a better player. If we can remember that and work on our passing we'll be ready to play St. Pauls."
