LUMBERTON — A Red Springs man was shot to death in the street Monday after an ongoing dispute with another man, according to the Robeson County Sheriff's Office.

Timmy Locklear, 24, of Quallas Drive, Red Springs, was killed at about 6:45 p.m. as he stood on Beam Road in Lumberton, according to sheriff's Maj. Howard Branch.

He was found dead with a shotgun still in his hand, Branch said.

Multiple shots had been fired between Timmy Locklear and 21-year-old Jeremy Lucas Locklear, of 692 Gene's Road, Pembroke, Branch said. The two men are not related, according to Branch.

Jeremy Locklear, who was not injured, was arrested on a previous misdemeanor charge of assault with a deadly weapon and was jailed under a secured bond of $1,000. He was released Tuesday afternoon after posting his bond.

Branch said an ongoing investigation will determine if Jeremy Locklear will face charges in the death of Timmy Locklear.

Jeremy's brother, Justin Adam Locklear, 23, of Gene's Road, Pembroke, suffered a gunshot wound and was treated and released at Southeastern Regional Medical Center Monday night, according to Branch. Branch did not know what the ongoing dispute concerned.

In an unrelated incident, 20-year-old Brittany Lynn Lowery of Maxton was shot in the side of the head by her brother, Gary Lowery, 25, at about 7:30 p.m. Monday, according to Branch. The shooting occurred at a house on Bambi Drive where they both live.

Gary Lowery fired several shots, with one shot grazing the left side of her head, according to sheriff's Lt. Dru Martin.

After the shooting, Gary Lowery fled into the woods near his home, lawmen said. His uncle and other family members tracked him down and about three hours later delivered him to the Maxton Police Department.

Lowery was arrested at about 10:30 p.m. after Maxton police called the Sheriff's Office, according to Martin.

Lowery is charged with attempted murder and was jailed under no bond, according to a sheriff's report.

The shooting occurred after the siblings argued about Brittany talking to Gary's girlfriend. Gary asked her to leave the house and Brittany said she refused. Gary told her he was going to shoot her, went to a bedroom, got a pistol and started shooting, according to Branch.

Martin said Brittany was treated at Scotland County Memorial Hospital.

Of course all the "Lumbees" with the same last name are not related!! Mostly because whites, negroes, Asians, Canadians, Irish, Germans, and a few Albanian dwarfs CLAIM to be "Lumbees" hoping to get some money from "federal recognition" which will never happen. On the other hand, I think ALL the "Britts" ARE right close kin.

Shiprince said, "How can Lumbees who ONLY come from Robeson County and have the SAME LAST NAME not B RELATED?"

The same way that ALL Lumberton people with the last name BRITT are NOT RELATED. Duh...?

To Shiprince...Lumbee people can have the same last name and not be related just like the whites and blacks may have the same last name. Are they related?

The previous poster said, to the effect, "if the justic system can't handle them, the people surely can". THAT is what I've said all along. It's up to THE PEOPLE to handle their own problems. Look at what's happened to the HP and now even the SBI is LYING straight out to get convictions! It's up to THE PEOPLE. It's high time Judge Lynch tried a few cases. And if everybody will just keep their mouth SHUT, won't be a damn thing anybody can do about it. Except the decent people will not have to live in fear.

Can't believe the 2 brothers are still walking for all the wrong they have done and continue to do. Both the justice systems and them 2 boys parents should be held accountable for what they do. Jeremy and Justin both should recieve what they give. When is enough going to be enough. If the justice system can't handle them, people tired of the BS sure can. Do your job justice system
