This letter is in response to comments made in the Fayetteville Observer, Aug. 8, 2010 edition. A letter criticizes Congressman Mike McIntyre for sharing legislative accomplishments pertinent to the people of the District 7 by way of congressional mailers. The writer insinuates that Congressman McIntyre uses media as “campaign literature.” The writer’s opinion is without fact and is untrue!
Congressional legislative mailers and literature are routinely mailed to constituents to inform the public on current legislative events and issues affecting them. This information is vital to all concerned as it pertains to their day-to-day lives as well as their communities. This so-called “campaign literature” is exactly what a well-informed public expects of our representatives, and by the way is legally paid for by the taxpayers.
During the past 14 years McIntyre has represented the District 7 most admirably. He has faithfully kept his constituents informed of critical legislative issues affecting the economy, jobs, education, business and industry, defense, military and veterans affairs, law enforcement, health care and environment issues. McIntyre’s legislative experience and voting record stands on solid ground and attests to his dedication as a public servant to the people of the district.
Making “political hay” of legislative congressional mailers is not conducive to good common sense, and is not what the taxpaying public expects.
