Neal helped the Golden Tornadoes (14-4, 6-0) cruise out to a 27-5 dominating start after the first quarter. Fairmont’s stifling defense held South Robeson (2-14, 1-5) to just one field goal, which didn’t come until there was 55 seconds left, in the opening frame.
South Robeson was held to just 13 field goals all night while Fairmont finished with 34.
At the forefront of the Tornadoes’ hot-shooting was the sophomore Neal who made 9-of-15 from the field, including a 3-for-3 showing behind the 3-point line.
Neal entered Friday night’s game averaging 8.1 points per game. The slashing guard, however, has led the Tornadoes in their last two outings, as he had a team-high 13 in Fairmont’s 66-54 win over South Columbus on Thursday.
Friday, Fairmont’s Jaquan McRae and Draquaine Floyd chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
On the glass, the Tornadoes’ Alex Gilchrist pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, followed by Chartlon Townsend and McRae with seven boards each.
South Robeson was led by a trio of double-digit scorers, including Laquan Pankey and Harrison Branch with 13 apiece and Emanuel Jackson with 10.
Evans anchors Fairmont girls
Anasia Evans put on a scoring clinic, pouring in 28 points to pace the Fairmont girls basketball team to a 60-39 Three Rivers Conference win over South Robeson.
Holding a slim one-point lead after the first quarter, the Golden Tornadoes began pulling away thanks to the torrid shooting of Evans.
Fairmont pushed the lead to eight by halftime, 22-14, before claiming a double digit command after three, 41-28. In the third, Evans anchored a 9-0 Fairmont run with six points of her own.
Sa’nyah Arnette and Christa Thorndyke added 10 points and eight rebounds apiece for Fairmont (5-10, 3-3).
Virginia McCormick scored a team-high 13 points for South Robeson (1-15, 1-5).
