LUMBERTON — The Robeson County Board of Commissioners will hold its annual retreat this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the county’s new emergency operation’s center located adjacent to the Sheriff’s Office.
The commissioners will be meeting with the county’s administrators, department heads and others to discuss the multitude of issues that are facing the county during the next year and beyond.
“This will be a good work session for the commissioners,” said Ricky Harris, the county’s interim manager. “It should be very productive.”
Among the issues to be discussed are the Sheriff’s Office and county jail, Public Works, tax issues, the county budget, health and emergency medical services, and Solid Waste. Economic development, renovations to the county’s old Social Services Department building, and an update from Harris on the county’s project priority are also on the meeting’s agenda.
Harris said that this year’s retreat, as was last year’s, is being held close to home as a cost-saving measure. In 2008 and 2009 the retreat was held in Brunswick County.
“Current economic conditions was a major concern in choosing the location,” Harris said.
All three days of the retreat are open to the public. Business will be conducted from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 8:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, and 8:45 a.m. to about 1 p.m. on Friday.
